about Jana
With over two decades of experience as a professional make-up artist/hair stylist, Jana is a pioneer in the beauty industry.
Being the daughter of a hairdresser, as an early teen she looked forward to the Saturdays that she could "help out" at her dad’s beauty salon. Cleaning brushes, sweeping the floor, answering the phone - she watched and learned first-hand from her father the importance of knowledge, perfecting the craft, and "just plain being kind to people and meeting their needs."
One of her favorite things she remembers her dad saying to his clients as he finished up with their hair was, "You look like a million dollars...and your HAIR looks good too!" And dad meant every word! He was loved by his clientele, many of whom continued with him as weekly clients for over 40 years.
And so Jana began her hair and makeup training, and by the early ‘90’s was getting "hands on" experience in makeup. She worked throughout the Los Angeles area as a freelance artist with Elizabeth Arden, Borghese, Ultima II, Estee Lauder and Alexandra de Markhoff Cosmetics. For five years she worked as a Regional artist with Lancome Cosmetics – traveling weekly to various locations in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, working special events, doing both makeup and facials.
During that time, she also continued training to learn the art of FX, aging, bald cap, wound and character makeup. Starting off as an assistant in commercials and on-location films, Jana quickly learned the long hours and dedication it took to be good at the craft. She eventually connected with some key production companies to work steadily as a staff artist in the industry in hair and makeup.
A true makeup /hair artist needs to know much more than how to apply makeup. "Breaking down" a script, for example is crucial in preparing for a project. Studying the actors and the roles they play is necessary to create the proper "look" for camera. Being able to think on your feet is imperative – especially when the makeup/hair artist needs to improvise or execute a "vision" from the director!
This is also true when providing services for weddings. Organization and skill go hand in hand to create a perfect event. Creating a timeline for the day for hair and makeup, for example, helps the bride and eases the stress of the day.
Her work is seen on television commercials, film, corporate projects, editorials and live events. Infusing her personality and warmth with her attention to detail, she will accent every woman’s natural beauty, as well as add a relaxing and calmness that enhances the "getting ready process" of any bridal party. Whether it’s a soft fresh face, a dramatic look or specific era –she will meet the needs of brides, bridal parties, actors, and anyone who wants to look and feel fabulous for any special occasion, production or red carpet event!
